Reducing HIV health disparities among African American men and their female partners
This project will create Focus, a computer-based HIV behavioral intervention for heterosexually active African American men. Focus will computer-enable the core components of Focus on the Future (FOF), the only best-evidence HIV behavioral intervention for Black men who have sex with women. The one-hour computer-based program will address the correct and consistent use of male and female condoms and lubricants, condom negotiation, and how masculine identity can be used to protect and foster relationships. The main message of Focus will be that men can protect their futures, and the futures of their families and communities, through healthy sexual decision-making. To test the efficacy of Focus, we will recruit 120 men from a community-based health organization in Washington, DC to participate in a randomized controlled trial.
